The purpose of the VOMD-24, VOM-24А fans` upgrade
In 2009, the Artyomovsk Machine-Building Plant "VENTPROM" developed the upgrade kit for the VOMD-24 and VOM-24А fans.
The upgrade purpose is to preserve the metal structures and construction part of the fan system and bring the fan into compliance with today`s safety requirements on metros, to restore the fan`s capacity, to increase the reliability of its operation, and improve the economic efficiency of the fan and the entire ventilation system of the underground.
The set task is achieved by replacing the rotor group with the existing stator part of the fan.

Electric motor
Description and advantages
The rotor group consists of an impeller mounted directly on the motor shaft.
The electric motor is mounted on a rigid support, which is bolted to the existing fan housing.
The support elements` system allows a rigid connection between the housing and the new rotor.

The impeller is made according to the new aerodynamic scheme.

The application of the new one-stage impeller allowed full overlapping of the parameters of the two-stage VOMD-24 fan operation. Moreover, the air supply increased by 1.3 times. The fan capacity in reverse operation is at least 80% of that in direct operation. The air jet is reversed by changing the direction of the impeller rotation

The blades are subjected to a random X-ray inspection and mechanical strength test. The fan`s impeller blades and bushing are made of high-strength aluminum alloy. Blade material samples were tested for mechanical strength and thermal resistance.
